SUEGO FAULTS

both sweaters - vintage

We went down to Byron last weekend and I bought these two cosy sweaters for winter. One from Oxfam, the other from Happy Flamingoes. It's been getting chilly in Brisbane this past week and they've been perfect for throwing over anything and everything. In fact, I'm wearing the pink one right now.

I decided this morning that trimming my fringe would be a great way to save money and despite an initial freak-out that I'd cut it waaaay too short, I actually really like how it's turned out. It's now vaguely Rooney Mara-esque, but not so severe (or perfect!).

Anyway, I have about ten billion assignments to get through (actually, it's only three plus an exam, but they're REALLY BIG) so I should probably get onto that.

LEGENDARY TRAGEDY

top - mink pink
pants - thrifted and altered by me

I think I mentioned something about not having massive lengths of time between posts last time, but that didn't really work out. Is "I've been busy" a bad excuse?

I found these pants in my local op-shop the other week. I replaced the buttons and sewed up the cuffs, and now the're good as new. I've been living in them. The houndstooth print is perfect. It goes with everything. I loved pulling three different prints together in the above outfit.

We went down to Byron yesterday for the day, which was amazing. The weather was perfect. I didn't actually get the beach, which was a shame, but on the bright side, I did spend a good couple of hours picking through the second hand shops and found some much-needed pieces for winter.

Do any of you like the Doors? I've been listening to them kind of obsessively lately. Just felt the need to mention that as I've got them blaring out of my computer at the moment.

Happy Mothers Day!

SECOND OF MAY

I seriously recommend Sway by Zachary Lazar. I'm not finished yet, but I'm enjoying the story immensely. It follows three interwoven journey's: the early Rolling Stones, Bobby Beausoleil (an associate of Charles Manson) and Kenneth Anger. For a more lighthearted read, Models Meet Mean Girls is my latest addiction. It's hilarious.

CAREY

(onetwothreefourfivesixseveneight)

I'm currently in the middle of re-watching An Education for the fiftieth time (I'm going to pin the blame on Vicky this time, for mentioning it on her blog last week!). Watching this movie has sparked the kind of deep disappointment that one only suffers when they realise that they will never, ever, ever, be Carey Mulligan. The only antidote to this kind of heartache is, of course, to spend inordinate amounts of time trawling the internet for my favourite Mulligan screenshots and then proceeding to dedicate a blog post to them.

An Education and Never Let Me Go both rate highly on my favourite-movies-of-all-time list and I'm looking forward to, hopefully, adding Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby to that list at the end of the year.

Okay, I promised myself that I wouldn't gush about the clothes, but really. Can we all take a moment to appreciate that impeccable 60's costuming and the amazing 'English-countryside-in-the-winter' layers? I can barely contain my excitement at the visual fashion feast that The Great Gatsy is sure to provide.

I LEFT YOU BLUEBERRIES IN THE FRIDGE

  • I had an assignment due yesterday, two due today, and I've got an exam tomorrow
  • I shouldn't be on blogger, but marketing MAKES ME WANT TO DIE
  • My 'happy faces' tend to look alarmingly fake in blog photos
  • My loafers are starting to fall apart, so I'm on the lookout for a replacement pair, although I don't think I'll ever find a pair that will get as much wear as these have
  • I've been spending an unreasonable amount of time debating whether or not to get my fringe cut back in
  • I'm going to bed

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS

(sources: onetwothreefourfive)

I've been wanting to watch Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris for quite an extensive period of time, and on Sunday evening I finally got around to it. It was worth the wait though, I loved it. Quirky, clever, and funny, it was the perfect antidote to a seemingly endless day of study.

Without giving too much away, the story centres around Gil (Owen Wilson), a Hollywood screenwriter, who is on holiday in Paris, with his fiancée Inez (Rachel McAdams). One night, after a little too much to drink, Gil finds himself wandering the streets of Paris, and at the stroke of midnight, finds himself being transported back to the 1920s.

Alison Pill and Tom Hiddleston were the Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald of my dreams, Corey Stoll's Ernest Hemingway was simply perfect, and Adrien Brody's cameo as Salvadore Dalí was hilarious.

Marion Cotillard's gorgeous 1920s clothing was another highlight, not to mention that inimitable French style. It's unfair that Carla Bruni and Léa Seydoux should be able to make jeans and a simple shirt look so good!

This movie definitely gets a thumbs up from me!

LOOKING FOR A TASTE OF REAL LIFE

shirt - sportsgirl
skirt - luck and trouble
jacket - vintage
boots - zu
bag - vintage

(Sorry, there is no full body shot. The lighting was a bit gross and it did crazy things to my face. Also, I'm too lazy to fix it.)

My high school went to Miles, a small QLD town about 300km west of Brisbane, every year for one of our Global Studies assignments, and the op-shop was probably the only thing about the camp to actually get excited about. My grade went almost three years ago, and at the time, we just bought a heap of junk to look silly in, but I found this jacket buried in my wardrobe a couple of weeks ago and strangely enough, I kind of like it. It has had a couple of outings lately, even around my friends from school, and no one has twigged at all.

Of course, that might be because half of my clothing these days looks like it belonged to someone's grandparents, but I still think it's so funny how these things that we buy with no intention of actually wearing, can end up doing the rounds in our closets a few years down the track.

Anyway, I should probably not write any more because I have marketing assignment due tomorrow that I really should be working on right now. Business assignments are depressing :( But, I'm going to Annie tomorrow night at QPAC with my sister which will be a lovely reward after handing it in.

I hope you're all having a wonderful week!

AIN'T IT STRANGE?

Hello, remember me?

I came back!

I'm looking forward to enjoying blogging again. Since starting university, getting dressed each day has taken on a new meaning. What isn't in the wash has become the deciding factor! I've also decided to branch out a little: I'm studying Entertainment Industries at university, so it seems logical to start integrating a bit of that stuff into my blog. I'm not entirely sure what this will entail yet, but there you go! There are exciting things to come :)

My recent purchases have been about simple shapes and block colours. I've been putting in an effort to finding items of clothing that are as versatile as can be. As a result, loose cotton singlets and t-shirts have become a real staple, as have slim fit jeans, skater skirts, man-style shoes, and easy-to-throw-on hats and bags. A vast array of cardigans, vests, necklaces and scarves have become my 'make-my-outfit-interesting' saviours, and I feel as though I'm starting to establish what I feel most comfortable wearing.

I found these jeans last week and have barely stopped wearing them. They can be worn with virtually any top I throw at them, but the moss green colour means they're a little more interesting than stock-standard denim skinnies. Not to mention the fact that they come in under $100!

I also made an Instagram account, so follow me as I have a fairly pathetic five followers at the moment! You can find me at 'elizabuzacott'. I promise to follow back :)

Anyway, that's enough of me blabbering on. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter tucking into far too many hot cross buns and chocolate eggs!

HERE WE COME

I've attended three lectures so far and am really enjoying university so far. I spent this morning reading over my marketing notes from last week and in preparation for next week, which probably sounds really boring, but I think it feels nice to be actually learning stuff again after such a long break! Are most of my readers in uni?

I actually wore this last week but didn't get a chance to post it. Because my camera remote is lame I can't take photos by myself but I'm going to try and get my mama to take some photos of my first-day-of-uni outfit on the weekend. Because that was obviously the most important part of the first day!

Anyway, I have to go watch a movie for my scriptwriting unit, so I hope you are all having a great week whether you're at uni, school, working or spending your time on some other exciting pastime!

PRETTY FROM AFAR

knit sweater - zara
dress - thrifted don't ask amanda
scarf - witchery
loafers - basque

I found this dress in a thrift shop yesterday for $7.50.

It's been so cold lately. I've been able to wear sweaters and coats. Although it has grown hot again now, I cannot wait until autumn and winter permanently set in.

I've been very busy lately so blogging has taken a slight backseat. I had my Orientation Week at uni last week and I start official classes this week. Very exciting!

Hope you are well.
